Church Ministries

Brotherhood Ministry

We minister to our brothers and sisters in distress. Our goal is directed toward the fellowship of brotherhood. We have retreats, breakfasts and bible study to assist in our progression of fellowship. The Bible says, “How good and pleasant for brethren to dwell together.”

Christian Counseling

Mission: To enhance the social, emotional and spiritual functioning of individuals, families and groups.

The focus of the Christian Counseling Ministry is assisting individuals, couples and families in resolving a variety of problems in living. The ministry provides counseling in a variety of areas including social, emotional, relational and spiritual functioning, all of which are based on Biblical principles. The Christian Counseling Ministry also provides premarital counseling to engaged couples.

Christian Education

Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not, neither decline from the words of the mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her.

For we understand that wisdom will sustain us, that it will keep and that’s our goal, to allow each member to be presented the knowledge and therefore allow the Holy Spirit to bring forth wisdom.

Throughout the Christian Education Ministry, we select teaching material for Vacation Bible School and Church Sunday School and offer workshops and seminars to aid in personal and spiritual growth.

Church School

The “teaching arm of the church”, our Church Sunday school is designed to prepare and teach Bible doctrine so that the church may grow in the grace of God. We believe in strong Godly principles, edifying the mind, and spirit body, and equipping the saints with spiritual based knowledge.

Food Bank

Our goal is to reach the community through the love and grace of God. We encourage and maintain a constant relationship with those members and friends in the community. We prepare food on a need basis. We believe strongly in the scripture that says “what you do to the least of me, you do it unto me.”

Custodian

The Church Custodian is responsible for maintaining the upkeep of the sanctuary and the church grounds.

Forever Young

The objectives for Forever Young Seniors;

1.To provide opportunity for seniors to fellowship
2.To enhance cultural awareness
3.To encourage seniors fifty-five and older to participate
4.To volunteer to give a donation to the church each year

Media Ministry

The purpose of the media ministry here at Poplar Spring is to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ to our visually-driven, ever-changing world through the use of technology and media, and to equip other ministries of the church to use digital and electronic media as a worship and outreach tool. This ministry not only provides the technical support required for our worship services, but also records various ministry events, worship service and sermons, which are made available through livestream, facebook live, YouTube, and can be provided on DVD. The media ministry also provides and maintains the church website and Facebook page. We also capture memories of events through photographs.

New Member Orientation

The purpose of the New Member Orientation Ministry is to:

1.Provide an understanding of the significance of a life in Christ
2.Illustrate and convey the rich history of Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church.
3.Explain the expectations and responsibilities of the new member through the Christian experience
4.Define the meaning of and offer ways to fulfill the role of discipleship through the use of God’s Word as the final authority,

The New Member Orientation Ministry emphasizes the importance of a true conversion through church membership. The topics discussed during orientation are designed to motivate the new member to become an avid student of the bible and an uncompromising servant of God.

Pastor’s Aide Ministry

While the ministry members are “caretakers” for the Pastor’s needs and concerns, each and every member of Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church (PSMBC) is technically a member of the “Pastor’s Aide Ministry.” All Disciples of Christ are reminded that we should demonstrate love and compassion toward the man whom God has called to lead us. Through prayer and assisting when possible, the Pastor’s Aide ministry realizes the burden he carries and is there to lighten it as much as possible. We also lend sincere support to the Pastor and First Family in such a manner that our church grows spiritually in unity, fellowship, stewardship and love all while lifting the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Scholarship Ministry

Our scholarship ministry is designed to assist those members who are involved in higher education. Our scholarship recipients are above average students who maintain high academics. We believe in the importance of support and encouragement in education, because “We perish from the lack of knowledge.”

Senior Missionary Ministry

The Senior Missionary Ministry is available to help our members, friends, and community. Our goal is to help bring more people to Christ by sharing the “Good News.” We enjoy bringing sunshine into people’s lives. The missionaries prepare care packages and baskets for nursing homes and the sick and shut-in members.

Transportation Ministry

Transportation Ministry is designed to be the intercessor between the community and the church. The transportation ministry does more than transport members and friends. It is also a service ministry. For we understand that serving is a humble occupation. Our motto is “we are moved and driven by the Holy Spirit to bring all who desire to come and worship and fellowship.”

Trustee Ministry

Being led by the Holy Spirit, PSMBC Trustees are Christ-minded stewards of the gifts and treasures that God has entrusted to the congregation. Our trustees receive and administer all finances of the church, maintain the facility to ensure it is suitable for all ministry needs and ensure the Articles of incorporation are kept current and within the guidelines of our state. Effective and spiritual administration and operations of the church also fall under the duties of the Trustee Ministry.

Usher Ministry

“Door Keepers”, we as the usher’s ministry here at Poplar Spring welcomes members, friends and visitors alike into a warm atmosphere of praise and worship. We believe that smiles and love are the key ingredients to a welcome heart.

Youth Ministry

Our first priority is to get the youth involved and we have many different avenues to attain this goal. Our purpose is best expressed by Proverbs 1:1-7 (the proverbs of Solomon son of prudent life, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young-let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance-for understanding proverbs and parables, the saying and riddles of the wise. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

We encourage the attendance of Sunday school, Youth Church and Bible study. Ultimately, we believe that in order to develop youth into mature followers of Christ, it is essential to teach them the importance of serving others through, Missions. We believe that through an active Sunday school, energizing discipleship, motivated outreach, and a mission oriented lifestyle-Worship occurs. All aspects of our strategy involve worship and we give Jesus glory for everything that is accomplished through our ministry.

We look forward to seeing all youth from 0-18 years of age on 3rd and 5th Sunday, Wednesday night bible study, and also on 2nd Saturday for the Pastor’s Luncheon.
